As the battle for the best camera smartphone heats up, Oppo is bringing a new contender to the battleground.

At MWC in February 2017, Oppo showed off phone camera technology that allowed for a 5x optical zoom, and while it never saw the light of day in any smartphone now on the market, we could soon see that impressive spec double.

A promotional image for the Oppo event includes a Chinese tagline which hints at the capability for 10x zoom on the upcoming device.

Oppo's invite for the January 16 event. While that arrangement never found its way into a production device, it looks like Oppo might be about to one-up its own achievement!

Anna Faris offers to marry Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger
The two have been dating since the summer of 2018, and it was his first relationship after his divorce to Anna Faris . Congratulating the couple on her show, she also described them as "f-king unbelievable people, and I'm so happy".

Why it matters: Oppo's periscope-inspired camera technology could be the next big thing in mobile photography. With OIS at the telephoto end, it should be possible to get stable shots even with the image fully zoomed in.

Right now it's not clear whether Oppo will showcase the camera technology at this event or a reference phone instead. Additional specifications include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor.

While no specifics regarding the new technology have been revealed just yet, we would assume that the new 10x technology will use light refraction in a reflective prism to achieve this 10x technology. This results in the high optical zoom effect. Let us know in the comments section.
