I'm not too sold on Red Dead Online yet, as the main game's single-player emphasis on taking power away from the player doesn't;t exactly translate too well to multiplayer modes, but if it's your cup of tea?

Now Rockstar ups the ante with Gun Rush, which is basically the same premise only with guns. Players can ride solo or join up with a team, and the last squad standing wins the game.

And as the new game mode goes live, IGN has posted one or two tips that will help you survive in the Wild West. It pits 32 players against one another in a battle for survival in a shrinking map. The online mode hasn't been received quite as warmly, though Rockstar did distinguish in advance that it was only a beta. Riding on horseback makes you a bigger target to fortified players. Aptly named Gun Rush, the new mode will remain in beta for the next few months while the developer incorporates player feedback and introduces new systems. Some of which are based on player feedback (the multiplayer portion of the game is now in the beta phase, and will be for the foreseeable future).

Foremost is the addition of new Daily Challenges, which will cover different aspects of the game and incentivize players with rewards.

The bounty system will change to reduce griefing by boosting the incentives to quickly pay off bounties. These changes will see players given a bounty for committing a crime and they will be given an incentive to pay off that bounty within an allotted time. Rockstar have also promised more Races and Showdowns, new clothing and new emotes later down the line.

With the gameplay of Red Dead Redemption 2 as its foundation, Red Dead Online transforms the vast and deeply detailed landscapes, cities, towns and habitats of Red Dead Redemption 2 into a new, living online world ready to be shared by multiple players.

Rockstar has also said that Xbox One players are now able to access the "Red Chestnut Arabian Horse, Alligator Skin Ranch Cutter Saddle and the High Roller Double-Action Revolver". In the same vein, starting Feuds, wherein both parties agree to kill the crap out of each other for three minutes, is also going to be easier - and that includes Posse Feuds and Leader Feuds.

Player dots on the map will soon only be visible over short distances, reducing the likelihood of being targeted across large areas.
