Joshua Zeitz, a contributing editor at Politico Magazine, tweeted, "I'm one of those American Jews who opposes the occupation, laments Israel's anti-democratic drift, and doesn't regard the country as especially central to my Jewish identity".

Neither Omar's office in Minnesota nor in Washington immediately responded for comment to Newsweek when asked about the tweet, which appears to invoke an old anti-Semitic stereotype portraying Jews as rich, and using their wealth to orchestrate political affairs.

Host Bill Hemmer noted that Democrats like Chelsea Clinton and Rep. Max Rose (D-N.Y.) have called out Omar, which King applauded while noting the Democratic leadership has been "shamefully silent". "She might as well call us hook-nosed".

Omar, a Somali-born Muslim, made her "Benjamins" comment in response to a tweet by journalist Glenn Greenwald criticizing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for threatening to take action against Omar and another Muslim representative, Michigan's Rashida Tlaib, over their allegedly anti-Semitic remarks. "I would say that she probably objects to the fact that when it comes to issues around foreign policy, or comes to issue specifically to Israel, there are a lot of interests, a lot of folks who make campaign contributions based on a person's position on Israel".

Omar, who has promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories that were used by Nazi Germany, said that the GOP's support for Israel was "all about the Benjamins baby".

He insisted that the Taliban are holding talks with the United States "on their own initiative". But he also admitted that the "elections make the peace agreement more complicated".

Omar sidetracked the conversation, ignoring the direct criticism for her antisemitic remarks.

Democrat Chelsea Clinton responded to Omar's anti-Semitism by saying that she was going to talk to Omar about her "anti-Semitic language and tropes". "And I believe we can do that without criticizing people for their faith", Omar tweeted at the former first daughter.

A spokesman for Omar said her statements "speak for themselves".

Some people tried to explain the lobbying group's influence, with one person drawing attention to a tweet by the US Ambassador to Israel that described AIPAC as "Israel's national strategic asset".
