Gavin Williamson will warn in a speech that Britain must stand up to those who "flout global law".

The task of the country he took, in particular, and opposition to "resurgent Russia" in the conditions of termination of the Agreement on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty).

"The alliance also must develop its ability to handle the kind of provocations that Russian Federation is throwing at us", he said.

"In the past five years, the alliance has come a long way - it is far more focused and ready to deter and defend against Russian hostile acts".

He told those gathered for his speech that "state-on-state competition was reviving".

Defending interventionist policy, he said the cost of failing to act in global crises had often been "unacceptably high", and that Western powers can not "walk on by when others are in need".

"The idea that our membership of the European Union restricts us is the purest nonsense", Labour MP Chris Leslie said.

The carrier will take part in the mission along with F-35 jets from the United Kingdom and US.

"To talk but fail to act risks our nation being seen as little more than a paper tiger", he will add.

The combined US-UK air wing aboard the carrier will improve "the reach and lethality of our forces" while "reinforcing the fact that the United States remains our very closest of partners", he said.
