Mazda's ever-popular convertible is turning 30.

Aptly named the MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary Edition, the vehicle features one of the only things that Miata fans across the world have been clamoring for since the introduction of the current ND generation: more color.

Mazda originally debuted the MX-5 Miata at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, so it's only fitting that the Japanese automaker has chosen to celebrate the 30th anniversary of that vehicle by making the world premiere of the MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary in Chicago. Other unique features include orange brake callipers, and for the first time in the UK, Brembo front brakes.

Speaking of wheels, the 30th Anniversary Edition also gets forged Rays ZE40 RS30 aluminum wheels that were apparently developed exclusively for this vehicle.

Mazda will offer the 30th Anniversary model in four flavors: soft top with automatic transmission, retractable fastback with automatic transmission, soft top with manual transmission, and retractable fastback with manual transmission. Orange accents highlight the interior, as well, with the color contrasting with the black leather and plastics that line much of the roadster's door trim, shift lever, dashboard, and seats.

The two followed NASA's previous Mars aircraft, InSight which touched down on the red planet around the New Year. However, Nasa admitted it's "anyone's guess whether their batteries and other parts will last that long".

The MX-5 30th Anniversary is based on the current 2.0-litre ND, which means it's powered by the new SkyActiv-G engine which develops 181bhp and revs to 7500rpm.

Three decades, that's how long the Mazda MX-5 has been in production.

Quotable: "After 30 years and with more than 1 million examples sold, Mazda feels that the MX-5 is no longer its own creation", reads Mazda's press release.

"This is a sports auto that has resonated with enthusiastic British drivers ever since its debut and four generations on it's as popular as ever", he added. A total of 200 RFs will be sold, priced at £29,895. Today it is the very essence of the Jinba Ittai driver-and-car-as-one philosophy that goes into every Mazda. "With its unique detailing, generous equipment levels, exclusivity and bold Racing Orange paint, the 30th Anniversary Edition is the flawless way to celebrate three decades of this iconic sports auto". Available to order now, the first United Kingdom customer deliveries will begin in the summer.
