Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for North Bay and area, warning of 25 to 35 centimetres of snow and blowing snow Tuesday into Wednesday.

Skies will become mostly sunny on Wednesday behind this storm with temperatures in the mid-20s.

Some 50,000 of people are without power and flights have been grounded as heavy snow-laden winds bore on Seattle.

Snow will overspread the area during the mid/late morning on Tuesday, with all of us seeing snow by around noon.

Then comes the more significant storm on Tuesday, Feb. 12. "The current forecast calls for a large area of 5-9" total snowfall which would be for most of the area, while far northern counties and western counties, over towards the Twin Cities may get a bit less, more likely 3-6".

The first round of wintry weather will start after midnight tonight and last through Tuesday afternoon. A little glaze of ice is possible by late Monday afternoon into the evening north of DC Metro. Strong easterly winds gusting to 80 km/h will cause reduced visibility in blowing snow.

In comparison, Seattle normally expects 0.7 inches of snow every February. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow with light icing is expected here, before the changeover.

The snow is expected to taper off to flurries on Wednesday. There could be a quick hit of non-accumulating snow on the backside of that storm Saturday morning.

Travel delays and bus cancellations are expected.

"A low pressure system brewing over the Southern Plains States may intensify into a winter storm as it tracks over Southern Ontario Tuesday", the agency said in its statement.
