A missing Hudson Valley woman has been identified as the woman whose body was found in a suitcase on the side of the road in CT.

"Her family was advised of the positive identification last night", Greenwich Police Capt. Robert Berry said Thursday. "They are obviously devastated by the loss of Valerie and our heartfelt condolences go out to them", Berry said in a statement cited by NBC News.

Valerie Reyes, 24, was full of life with countless friends and close family members who loved her, they gathered at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle.

According to police, the body was found 10 to 15 feet off the road in a suitcase around 8:15 a.m.by a town worker. A man who said he was Reyes's boyfriend asked for help finding her. Police believe Reyes did not die at that location and her cause of death has not been released.

Police in CT say they are working with the New Rochelle Police Department and other law enforcement agencies at multiple levels and have engaged a variety of resources to assist in the investigation.

Police say she was reported missing January 30 after she did not show up for work.

Police still don't know where the murder took place. An autopsy was carried out on Wednesday night but the cause of death has not been disclosed by the coroner.

"My girlfriend Valerie is now officially reported as a missing person nationwide by the authorities".

"I really pray to God they find out who done this", DeGiacomo told the Greenwich Time.

Meanwhile, the highway worker who found the body is under investigation, officials said.

"It's an egregious lack of judgment and sensitivity to the situation", said Tesei, who serves as police commissioner in Greenwich.

"A attractive soul. A lovely daughter to me; a handsome sister, always caring", her mother said.

Greenwich residents spoke with the local newspaper, the Greenwich Time, about a growing uneasiness over news of the killing. They found her in the luggage.

"She was the sweetest most gentle girl, like I can't see anyone harming her", a teary-eyed DeGiacomo told the Greenwich Time.

A woman's body was found "constrained and restrained" in a suitcase on the side of a road. "My kids are prisoners now because I don't know where this happened and until I know where this happened, I don't feel safe letting my kids out on my own block where I live".

"Horrified. Absolutely horrified", Bradford, 19, told The Associated Press.
