Senate votes down Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal

"People are dying. They are dying", Ocasio-Cortez exclaimed in response. They criticized Republican leaders for a calling a procedural vote on the bill when they knew it had no chance of passing.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (a Democrat from New York) on Tuesday delivered an impassioned defense of the Green New Deal, the ambitious Democratic proposal aimed at fighting climate change, after a Republican member of Congress attacked the resolution as an elitist plan he claimed had been created by out-of-touch "rich liberals from NY or California".

"The solution to climate change won't be found in political posturing or virtue signaling", he said.
