Many in the NY media said I was insane, and one well-known radio host called me clueless.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jets also parted ways with vice president of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger in a surprising front office shakeup that comes after Gase shut down rumors of a rift between he and Maccagnan. Clearly the GM and his newly-hired coach did not see eye-to-eye.

Maccagnan, who had two years left on his contract, was instrumental in the team drafting Sam Darnold last year and was part of the group that selected Gase to become the franchise's new coach after Todd Bowles was sacked. Maccagnan, however, had all the juice when it came to talent acquisition and over. Johnson goes on to justify today's choice "what would be in the best long-term interests of the New York Jets".

US envoy urges response 'short of war' to Gulf tankers attack
According to him, the attack "did not lead to any casualties or an oil spill but damaged the structures of the two vessels.". As tensions between the U.S. and Iran have increased, Tehran has threatened to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

"I don't know who decides to put that stuff out there", Gase said.

ESPN reported that Brian Heimerdinger, the Jets' vice president of player personnel, also was sacked as part of the team's front office shake-up. Maccagnan was hired in 2015, days before the franchise hired Gase's predecessor, Todd Bowles.

Bears assistant director of player personnel Champ Kelly was one of two names mentioned Wednesday by NFL Media's Ian Rapoport as the Jets' potential replacement hire for Maccagnan. In the interim, Coach Gase will be the acting General Manager.

As noted by Rapoport, this move makes it clear that Gase will have a heavy influence in the personnel side of building the Jets team he will coach, and it's likely that influence was wielded throughout the 2019 National Football League draft. He also acquired left guard Kelechi Osemele from the Raiders in a trade.
