It finally worked out for them with this gorgeous second-period goal.

Boston swept a best-of-7 Stanley Cup Playoff series for the 15th time in its history and the sixth time in a conference final/NHL semifinal.

It wasn't just enough to beat the Hurricanes and get to the Stanley Cup finals. The New York Islanders swept the Pittsburgh Penguins before they were swiftly eliminated in four games by the Hurricanes, who of course failed to register a win against the Bruins. And since the National Hockey League went to a best-of-seven format for the entire playoffs in 1987, seven conference final sweeps have occurred, and those series victors went on to post a 3-4 record in the final.

Rask extended his personal playoff winning streak to seven games, the second-longest in Bruins history behind a 10-0 run by Cheevers in 1970. After a pair of bang-bang power-play goals in the third period of that one, Carolina never led again.

The Bruins hope to have one of their best assets back on the ice for their last series of the postseason.

Bergeron has 99 points (39 goals, 60 assists) in 129 playoff games; his next point will make him the sixth player in Boston history to have 100 points in the postseason.

Transfer: Solskjaer, Woodward clash over Pogba's move to Real Madrid
Long-serving defender Marcelo concedes he and his team-mates must shoulder the blame for Real Madrid's "tough" campaign. And now United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward insists he wants the 26-year-old Pogba to remain at Old Trafford.

That this game was scoreless after 20 minutes was a testament to McElhinney, who came up with several early gems - including robbing Marchand from close range with his glove about 7½ minutes in. Pederson is next at 141.

It remains to be seen who they'll face after the St. Louis Blues evened the Western Conference Final against the San Jose Sharks on Friday night, but the B's will be in as good of a situation as they've ever been entering the Cup Final. The Bruins have the most goals (57, and their 3.35 goals per game ranks first), the fewest goals against (33, and their 1.94 goals against per game leads the way) and the best power play (34 percent) and penalty kill (86.3 percent). That was the 36th one-goal game in this season's playoffs, eight more than all of last season.

That's just the way the Bruins were built; adapt and adjust to whatever the game presents, and step up when needed. A positive for San Jose? He has scored at least one goal in each of the first three games in this series.

The two shared a laugh and continued to trade compliments before continuing down the line. There are also at times questions whether or not the puck went over the high glass in the zone or the shorter glass near the benches.

After the Bruins victory in Game 4 over Carolina Thursday, Cassidy mentioned picking up the phone and picking some brains on how to handle the long break between games.
