The France worldwide becomes Barca's third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Frenkie de Jong and Neto.

Sources at the Catalan club have told ESPN FC they are "relaxed" about Atletico's threats, adding that Griezmann did not sign a precontract agreement before July and that they have not breached any of FIFA's regulations.

The fee was a record paid by the capital city club and the highest ever received by a Portuguese outfit, and the sale of Griezmann helps finance such a huge transfer for a young player.

FC Barcelona will sign former Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann after paying for his release clause Friday.

However, Atletico believe the France global agreed to terms with Barca before his clause dropped from €200 million on July 1 and therefore claim they are owed an additional €80 million to ratify the transfer, they said in a statement.

I checked in with [Leonard] all the time. "We had no influence into what his final decision was going to be ". The NBA, though, would not allow Johnson to be a part of any official free-agent meetings.

Griezmann was a losing finalist with Atletico in the competition in 2016 against Real Madrid, where he missed a penalty in normal time but scored his spot kick in the resulting shootout, although his side went on to lose 5-3 overall. Barca were reluctant to move for him initially due to the way he turned them down via a documentary called "The Decision" last summer.

"It was also prior to the date on which the clause was modified the communication that the player made on May 14 announcing his disengagement from the club".

Atletico Madrid have announced they have already "initiated the procedures" to contest the signing, effectively taking Barcelona to court.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup victor, Griezmann, 28, scored 185 goals in 459 club appearances.

The announcement was the latest episode in a spat between the two clubs and Griezmann after the 28-year-old failed to show up for Atletico's pre-season gathering on Sunday following his announcement in May he would be leaving for an unnamed destination - long-suspected to be Barcelona.
