Inevitably, the question of Carrie Fisher loomed large and director JJ Abrams has confirmed that she and Leia Organa will be at the very heart of the film's story.

The likelihood is that the scene is in there as a fake-out, that she's having some kind of vision of an evil version of herself and that she has to face it - similar to how Luke Skywalker had to face an apparition of Darth Vader (that was actually Luke Skywalker underneath) in "The Empire Strikes Back".

Abrams revealed he still had unused footage of the beloved actress from The Force Awakens, and made a decision to use it in the finale of the original Skywalker saga. "And still, maybe now more than ever, it's impossible to me that she's gone because she's so alive in the film".

In other exciting news, they also released a brand new poster for the film, which you can see below. "It was a classic Carrie thing to write something like that, that could only mean one thing for me", Abrams said.

Perhaps Favreau will be taking the full Mad Max approach with a mostly silent protagonist surrounded by enigmatic characters. We'll break the trailer down for you once we've had a chance to watch it about twenty more times.

Are you excited to see The Rise of Skywalker? "So, I'm nothing but grateful to everyone involved".

"Keri is obviously one of my dearest friends and she obviously could not be more of a talented person basically did me a solid by agreeing to be in the movie, so I got to work with Keri again, which was something that I always love to do", he said. A new evocative poster for the film (shown above) and some new details, including info on Russell's character, were also revealed. Composer John Williams, who has scored every chapter in the Star Wars saga since 1977's A New Hope, will return to a galaxy far, far away with Rise of Skywalker.

Russell plays a new character named Zorri Bliss, who, the 43-year-old actress characterized during the presentation as "incredibly cool and a bit shady".

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out December 20 in India and around the world.
