White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow on Sunday initially confirmed media reports earlier in the week that Mr Trump had privately discussed with his advisers the idea of buying Greenland.

As an economic analyst before joining the Trump administration, Kudlow was known for opposing tariffs and promoting free trade.

President Trump offered an optimistic outlook of the economy Sunday and dismissed concerns of a looming recession after losses in financial markets last week and his ongoing trade war with China that some say will determine if he wins in 2020.

Kudlow acknowledged a slowing energy sector, but said low interest rates will help housing, construction and auto sales.

The delay was seen as a concession to China and a backhanded admission that the tariffs - despite Trump's repeated insistence to the contrary - could in fact have an impact on USA consumers.

"We can not let China pursue these unfair and unreciprocal trading practices", Kudlow said.

At the rally, the President slammed his Democratic political candidates, calling Elizabeth Warren "Pocahontas".

"This current trade war that the president has entered our country into is not working", O'Rourke said. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell stressed that the Fed was anxious about the consequences of Trump's trade war and sluggish economies overseas.

Trump has consistently touted his economic record. Democrats on Sunday argued Trump's trade policies were posing an acute, short-term risk.

Mr Trump said the United States could not make it more hard for law-abiding citizens to protect themselves, but he advocated for expanding the number of facilities to house the mentally ill without saying how he would pay for it.

The president admitted the volatility of the markets have led to "a couple of bad days", over China tariffs, but that good days were on the horizon. "That's where the conversation ends", she said.

"The concept came up and.strategically it's interesting", Trump told reporters from the tarmac in Morristown, New Jersey, as he prepared to board Air Force One. Helping targeted Farmers from big Tariff money coming in.

Navarro would not go even that far, saying Sunday "there's no evidence whatsoever that Americans consumers are bearing any of this".
