Bhuvneshwar Kumar says he was not anxious about India failing to defend a total of 279 in the second ODI against West Indies at Port-of-Spain on Sunday, because he felt a couple of wickets could turn the match around in a flash.

Veteran opener Chris Gayle broke Brian Lara's record for the most runs by a West Indies batsman in One-Day Internationals but his failure typified the Caribbean side's brittle batting and overshadowed the achievement, as the hosts crashed to a 59-run defeat under Duckworth-Lewis-Stern in the second ODI here today.

Australia's Mark Waugh is a distant third with 1708 runs from 47 matches, followed by South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis (1666 runs in 40 matches) and Pakistan's Rameez Raja (1624 runs in 53 matches). "We knew if we could get one or two wickets then we would be back in the game", he said after the second ODI.

Virat Kohli went past Sourav Ganguly to become the eighth highest ODI run-getter.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniya spoke of the Al-Aqsa clashes on Sunday, saying it "shows the religious dimension of the conflict". In a bid to ease tensions, local authorities had barred non-Muslims, including Jews, from visiting the site on Sunday.

Bhuvneshwar himself was impressive as he bagged four wickets in the match and tilted the match in India's favour by getting rid of Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Roston Chase and Kemar Roach. "The more stops you have, the more you want to be careful to ensure that the players don't injure themselves", Kohli said at the post-match presentation. "It was important to string in a lot of dot balls", he added. We lost crucial wickets at the back end to lose the game.

Shreyas Iyer also contributed for India, scoring 71 from 68 balls before he was bowled by Jason Holder. Kumar lauded the partnership between the duo and he also complimented Iyer on the maturity he displayed during his innings.

With West Indies selection committee not paying heed to his request for a farewell Test match at his home ground, the next two games could well be the last of an eventful and colourful character. Gayle looked completely out of sorts during the opening ODI against India where he managed only 4 off 31 balls before being bowled by Kuldeep Yadav. The West Indies have put out a number of legendary players for the series.

It all now boils down to winning the second ODI and gaining a 1-0 lead in the 3-ODI series.
