"And they are increasingly despairing seeing what's going on in Parliament and the role that the Labour Party is playing, and the fact the Labour Party won't even have an election, frankly they're scratching their heads and wondering what is going on and what is the Labour Party for?"

The leader of the Labour party has told supporters he is "utterly determined" to win Norwich North after making it a key election target.

Mr Serwotka, who is TUC president this year, told the conference floor: 'Let the cry go out: we have no confidence in this rotten government and we want a general election on our terms now. It wouldn't be Johnson and his wealthy friends.

"Be in no doubt, a no deal Brexit is really a Trump deal Brexit, leading to a one-sided United States trade deal negotiated from a position of weakness", Corbyn will reiterate, having used the anti-Trump line against no deal several times over the last few weeks. It's not their livelihoods on the line.

As the country looks more and more likely to be heading for a general election, Jeremy Corbyn addressed more than 100 party activists in the constituency as he ramped up campaign preparations. "It would be the rest of us", he will say.

The setbacks suffered by the government over the past week also included a rebellion by 21 Tory MPs, who voted in favour of the bill blocking a no-deal Brexit and were subsequently deselected by the party, meaning they are unable to stand as Conservative candidates in the next general election. But the prime minister has said he would "rather be dead in a ditch" than ask Brussels for another extension.

While many in parliament fear the impact of a no-deal Brexit, Johnson and his team say they have boosted preparations for such an outcome to try to minimise the fall-out from Britain leaving without a deal.

The speech came after Labour led the way to inflict yet another defeat on the Prime Minister by blocking his second call for a general election in the Commons.

Piers has said that sticking to the October 31 deadline is the "only way" to get a good deal. While they'd rather stay in the European Union than have no-deal, they believe a Labour government should offer voters a choice in a referendum between a negotiated deal and staying in the EU.

Mr Corbyn is also expected to clarify his party's policy on Brexit this week and is expected to rebuff calls from senior figures in the party to campaign unequivocally for Remain.

Johnson also saw his own brother, Jo Johnson, resign as a Tory MP and minister, while Bracknell MP Philip Lee staged a public defection from the Conservatives to the Lib Dems, a move that wiped out the prime minister's working majority in parliament.
