"The fact is that we're a team and we won the Walker Cup for each other and for the United States and whoever else that we're representing". Having pulled support within the morning foursomes, the visitors "gained" the singles 8-2.

They came from two down after three holes to defeat Alex Fitzpatrick and Conor Purcell 2&1. The GB&I pairing had started strongly but lost their way on the back nine going down 2&1. They still had that advantage after seven holes, but the U.S. duo didn't make many mistakes over the next 10 holes to put a valuable point on the board.

"This afternoon I just could not believe the amount of putts Great Britain and Ireland made in the first 45 minutes", USA captain Nathaniel Crosby said. It was really cool, and it was a special moment, but I did not know exactly that I had clinched it.

As a replace, they trampled their hosts into the seaside turf, returning from an in a single day 7-5 deficit to cruise to a 15½-10½ success. Crosby switched his lineup slightly to go with arguably his strongest pair in the first foursomes match. Smalley missed that putt, but the Americans still took the hole and their first lead. "We wanted to set the tone for sure and we were a happy we could do that". He captured a 2-and-1 victory over Conor Gough in singles play, helping team US win eight of 10 singles matches. It meant the US was only two behind, and on a little bit of a high.

"I told Brandon on 8, 'We're still in this, '" Smalley said.

The teams split the last two foursomes matches 1-1.

Great Britain and Ireland won just one of the foursomes courtesy of Plumb and Tom Sloman, who beat world No 1 Cole Hammer and Steven Fisk 4&3.

The Americans won the amateur competition for the second straight time and now lead the series 37-9-1.

John Pak completed a flawless week and John Augenstein delivered the clinching point as the American rallied from a two-point deficit Sunday and won the Walker Cup for the first time away from home in 12 years.

"To come away with something is good because we were three down at one point, and to get it back to a halved match is pleasing", Scott said. So, with 10 points to play for, Crosby's team has a strong chance of defending George Herbert Walker's trophy. The Walker Cup will be held at Seminole Golf Club in Florida in 2021.
