Flu seasons are unpredictable and can last late into the spring. Unfortunately, it's not 100% effective to keep the flu away - but we think it does decrease the severity of the flu you may get. Infants display good response to flu vaccines, while elderly with fragile immune systems are subject to complications post flu vaccination.

"The vaccine will safeguard children against the flu virus, but if they do not get the flu shot and they become infected, there is no cure".

Since 2005, the CDC has enforced National Influenza Vaccination Week to emphasize the importance of continuing flu vaccination even through the winter months.

For most healthy people, flu is a very unpleasant disease and it generally takes about a week to recover.

In all, the CDC noted, 5.1 percent of all deaths reported across the country from November 17-23 were related to pneumonia and influenza. Flu vaccination has been shown to reduce the risk of getting sick with flu as well as reduce the risk of having a serious flu outcome like going to the hospital or being admitted to the intensive care unit. There have been 88 flu-related hospitalizations in metro Atlanta, but no flu-related deaths reported in the state.

"Because flu viruses are constantly changing, flu vaccines may be updated from one season to the next to protect against the viruses that research suggests may be most common during the upcoming flu season".

The Ministry said people should follow health precautions including washing hands with soap and water and avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouths. "The vaccine not only protects you, but helps protect your family, friends, coworkers and people you pass in public".

Flu activity is inching up in Georgia and already at a "high" level after a "moderate" 2018-19 season, according to health authorities. Dr. Alex Roby at Red River ER in Sherman said flu activity in North Texas has increased heavily in the last two weeks, and it looks as if the season is going to be prolonged. Further, strictly hygienic manufacturing processes of flu vaccines require a significant time period due to numerous formalities - purification, quality analysis, safety controls, and packaging and regulatory approvals.
