The New York Giants have hired Patrick Graham to be their defensive coordinator.

The Giants were expected to zero in on Baylor's Matt Rhule, but he reportedly struck a seven-year, $60-million deal to become the Carolina Panthers' next head coach before his scheduled interview with NY.

Considering the Patriots' successful track record of unearthing and developing some good young talent in the secondary - and the play of so many street free agents and waiver wire additions this season in Miami, the Dolphins at least have reason to be optimistic.

Having coached under both Bill Belichick and Nick Saban, Judge comes to the Giants will more than enough knowledge to give this team a boost. He led one of the league's worst pass rushes, with the Dolphins managing just 23 sacks in 2019, the fewest in the league.

Judge is the first special teams coordinator to be hired as a head coach since the Baltimore Ravens selected John Harbaugh in 2008.

Joe Judge is the Giants third head coach since Tom Coughlin was sacked after the 2015 season.

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was expected to meet with the team as well. The Dolphins will also bring in a new offensive coordinator for the second consecutive season, after Flores fired Chad O'Shea and lured Chan Gailey out of retirement to fill that role two weeks ago.

Graham's move to NY is a fascinating development, considering it is a lateral one, which is rare in the NFL.

NFL Network was first to report the defensive coordinator moves.

"What I learned from Coach Saban was it is important to address everybody not only on what they have to do but how it should look, what I need to do to get there and why it's important", Judge said.
