The Cowboys opted not to retain Garrett after 10 seasons as head coach, but he was under contract through Tuesday because he was not fired. Of course, they'd also love to pick his brain regarding the inner workings of the rival Cowboys, along with their intrigue surrounding his dominance of the NFC East in recent seasons.

The Giants had requested permission to speak with Garrett about their head-coaching position before hiring Joe Judge.

Now, Garrett may re-join a Giants organization where he served as backup quarterback from 2000-2003.

Garrett could bring needed experience to first-time head coach Joe Judge's staff in NY.

Wall Street hits record, boosted by trade and earnings optimism
Discount retail giant Target fell 6.59% after the retailer posted some disappointing holiday same-store sales figures. Bank of America slid 1.8% after reporting weaker profits due to the rapid decline of interest rates in late 2019.

One of the first to interview for the position was Mike Shula, who now remains on the staff in East Rutherford after serving as Pat Shurmur's offensive coordinator over the previous two seasons.

With the coaching staff nearly complete, the offensive coordinator position is arguably the most important hire outside of bringing in Judge that this team will make for a long time.

"I certainly wouldn't have any objection to that", Mara said. "At the end of the day, that's going to be Joe's decision". Garrett last called plays for the Cowboys in 2012 before handing off the reins to Bill Callahan, then Scott Linehan, and finally Kellen Moore in 2019. NY may value Garrett's experience to help Judge in his early years with the new responsibility. The Cowboys hired former Packers coach Mike McCarthy to replace him.

In a decade as the head coach in Dallas, Garrett took the team to the playoffs three times and finished with an overall record as head coach of 85-67.
