Japan's health ministry said Wednesday that 39 new cases of a virus have been confirmed on a cruise ship quarantined at a Japanese port.

United States company Princess Cruise Lines Ltd., the operator of the Diamond Princess, had earlier said 66 new cases of the virus originating in the central Chinese city of Wuhan were confirmed, but the ministry said there could be some overlap in the operator's figures.

Lena Samoylov, one of the Israeli passengers on board told unnamed sources cited by Ynet what life was like for her on the quarantined ship. An Indian crew member aboard the identical ship has despatched an emergency message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi looking for assist to "convey again safely".

Among the new 65 cases are 45 Japanese and 11 Americans, Japan's health ministry said.

People who test positive for the virus are taken off the ship to hospital.

China on Monday said 908 people had died of the virus on the mainland and over 40,170 had been infected.
