A separate rainfall warning will be in effect between 6am and 9pm on Saturday.

Flood alerts, meaning flooding is possible - be prepared, were in place for the River Severn in Shropshire and Worcestershire, River Worfe, the Severn Vyrnwy confluence, Tern and Perry Catchments and the River Dee Catchment in England from Whitchurch to Chester.

Nationally, a total of three new amber warnings covering areas of high land and associated rivers have been issued for a 24-hour period over the weekend.

"Wet and very windy on Saturday".

On Sunday, a fourth amber warning for areas south of London, stretching from Andover in Hampshire eastwards, has also been issued from shortly after midnight until 6pm.

Naturally, delays and cancellations on public transport are also to be expected over the weekend.

The yellow warning will begin at midday on Sunday.

The authority has taken the decision to close the bridge on Saturday afternoon, with winds from Storm Dennis set to top its 50mph safety limit for crosswinds.

The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings ahead of the arrival of Storm Dennis, covering England, on Saturday, and the entire United Kingdom on Sunday.

The severe weather warning says: "Strong winds in association with Storm Dennis are expected on Saturday and Sunday across many parts of England and Wales".

Storm Dennis' arrival on Sunday has prompted another yellow warning until noon on Monday, for winds gusting to 70mph, affecting the whole of Scotland apart from Orkney and Shetland.

River levels are likely to rise over the weekend and into early next week.
