Brentwood School District Prepares for Early April Distance Learning Launch

Ensuring that high school seniors graduate on time is among his top priorities as Pennsylvania grapples with the prospect of an extended school shutdown because of covid-19 fears, Secretary of Education Pedro Rivera said Wednesday, stressing that the school year can not be extended beyond June 30.

"We want parents and kids to know we care about them and are going through this together and are in it together", said Engebritson. Some record videos for students to watch, and a few do it live so students can interact and answer questions in real time. "We often get caught up in time, and we often don't take enough time to drill down on instruction and see what students are actually doing". Districts will be expected to follow critical safety guidance from the Centers for Disease Control with regard to social distancing for students, staff and school families.

Teachers from Campbell River's School District 72 will be getting in touch with families this week. "We are trying to be all encompassing so can be all about learning during this hard time".

Chris Moon teaches 6th grade language arts and science and high school economics with the Marcola School District.

Many school districts are delivering learning materials to students to make sure everyone has access to the distance learning curriculum.

"They are ready to support the students when necessary", Shay said. "I've strongly urged continuity of education and if it's warranted, we will reach out to school districts individually" and flex the state office's power and public influence.

Long-term school closures look increasingly likely thus it is imperative that school districts come up with plans that serve all students.

Branch secretary Terry Burke said the announcement was critical in addressing the needs of vulnerable workers in schools as well as in providing teachers and school support staff time to develop the remote learning modules and programs needed to facilitate ongoing student learning given the new reality facing communities.

Eaton says the District is now working to organize educational resources for students and find ways to prepare and support students with distance learning opportunities.

"A lot of tools the teachers have been using they have been using for a while".

"We've been using a board and flashcards", she said.

Colleen Hunter-Weekly of Wheeling is a special education teacher in the Buckeye Local School District.

But she hasn't heard back from many, which has her anxious.

Morrow says he's aware of additional worries and concerns for grade 12 students in regards to graduation.
