Coronavirus cases in New York State now top 10,000

Mayor Bill de Blasio said in an interview Sunday that the coronavirus pandemic has "only just begun" and that he fears that the "worst is yet to come".

Karine Raymond, a nurse at Jack D. Weiler Hospital in New York's Bronx borough, said most nurses were unable to get specialized N95 masks and even simpler surgical masks were in short supply.

Dr. Craig Smith, the surgeon-in-chief at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and the chair of Columbia University's Department of Surgery, said in a letter to colleagues that the city's hospital system could reach "reach peak COVID-19 volume within 22-32 days".

As of Sunday night, there were 10,764 positive COVID-19 cases and 99 fatalities, according to the mayor's office.

The state of NY now accounts for about 5 percent of COVID-19 cases worldwide.

"We're going to keep getting more kids laptops and the technology they need and the Wi-Fi connections".

"I cannot be blunt enough: if the president doesn't act, people will die who could have lived otherwise", he said.
