Royole, the company behind the early folding FlexPai smartphone, announced the FlexPai 2 and a strategic partnership with fellow Chinese manufacturer ZTE during a livestreamed event.

Foldable smartphones have been a trend since early 2019.

Royole hasn't revealed all the details about the new FlexPai 2 foldable phone, but we know it will come with a large external 7.8-inch external display with a 4: 3 aspect ratio.

Royole is calling its new screen tech "3rd Generation Cicada Wing", and claims the technology "offers 50% increase of brightness and delivers enhanced performance, including high contrast, wide color gamut [and a] fast response time".

Clap for our carers: National round of applause planned for 8pm tonight
Organisers of " Clap for our Carers " are asking everyone to clap at 8pm from your front door, window, balcony, garden or wherever you are.

Royole hosted the event to boast about its new foldable display, and it truly is mesmerizing.

Under the hood, it is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 865 processor, coupled with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage (details not revealed). Royole stopped short at providing further information, but with a Q2 2020 launch date set for the consumer market, we'll be hearing more soon. According to the authorities, the panel endured 200,000+ flexes without receiving any kind of damages. The company claims that the device will last over 2,00,000 folds without creasing, tearing or peeling. On the other hand, the display panel can be folded in multiple directions and even rolled on its own, showcasing the advancements in the flexible display field. CEO Bill Liu unveiled the FlexPai 2 on Tuesday, saying the second generation phone is thinner with a more robust and wearproof hinge.

Connectivity options on the Royole FlexPai 2 include Wi-Fi, GPS, USB Type-C, 3G, and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India).

Chances are the FlexPai 2 won't be the only device to leverage the third-generation Cicada Wing FFD.
