While this new functionality is very exciting for businesses and consumers alike, it is important to keep in mind to maintain good e-commerce hygiene -including honoring refund and shipping policies and having the appropriate disclosures and product descriptions - even in this new format.
For discovery, the shops can be promoted on a business' Facebook Page or Instagram profile, through stories or ads.
The grants will go to small businesses in 34 locations where Facebook employees live and work. They can customise the look and feel of their Shop with a cover image and showcase their brand on this new tool, Facebook said.
According to Facebook, 160 million businesses use its apps every month - almost one business for every 55 people on the planet, all using Facebook, Instagram, Messenger or WhatsApp to reach customers.
Facebook Shops will start off with Facebook and Instagram. For example, if buyers access Instagram to add a product to their cart, they can check out through Facebook, the company said. Instagram will also gain a dedicated shopping tab where similar functionality will be given to businesses. Facebook isn't likely to build a fulfilment infrastructure to rival Amazon, but it could generate fees from Shop participants for services such as advertising and payments.

Soon, you'll be able to view a business' shop and make purchases right within a chat in Instagram Direct, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
The small businesses will also be able to create and manage loyalty programmes on these shops as the social media company is trying to connect the loyalty programmes of local stores to Facebook accounts.
Stores on Facebook allows any business, from a small business to a global brand, sell your products through Facebook. This feature allows businesses to create free store fronts on Facebook and Instagram.
Facebook Shops will be powered by third-party chains, including Woo, Shopify, and BigCommerce. "I've been personally working with our teams on Facebook Shops every day for the last couple of months so we could accelerate launching it to small businesses who could use tools like this now", said Mr Zuckerberg on his Facebook page.
Since it will let businesses use all the available Facebook platforms to display and sell their products, Zuckerberg said, "It's one simple and consistent experience across this family of apps, which means it is easier for people".
Facebook said it is also testing a way for users to see and track the rewards they get from companies for their purchases.
