Stars hand social media spotlight to health experts

The ONE Campaign's #PassTheMic is a new initiative aimed at promoting "health and economic experts and discussing a global response to the global COVID-19 pandemic".

Stranger Things actress Brown, 16, has over 33 million followers on Instagram.

Gayle Smith, president and CEO of ONE Campaign, said: "Beating the virus means listening to the experts and following the science, data and facts to get ahead of it".

For three weeks, some of the stars will turn over their social media accounts for a day to frontline workers, health, economic and other experts to allow them to share their perspectives on the pandemic.

Among the experts featured, expect to see Dr. Anthony Faucci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, along with other folks who are not such big household names.

Roberts isn't the only Hollywood star to become enthralled with Dr. Fauci - her Ocean's Eleven co-star Brad Pitt portrayed the medical expert during a recent episode of Saturday Night Live. It's run by ONE, a worldwide marketing campaign to finish excessive poverty and preventable illness by 2030.

In the interview with Roberts on her personal social media account, Fauci says the main problem to solve is "the extraordinary health disparities" between countries.

Hugh Jackman and Julia Roberts are two of several A-list celebrities who chose to give up their social media accounts - well, for one day anyway.

Yemi Alade, Connie Britton, Danai Gurira, David Oyelowo, Sarah Jessica Parker, Busy Philipps, Rita Wilson, Robin Wright and extra will even give up their Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts for a day to front-line staff and well being and financial consultants.

Many celebrities participating have a large footprint on social networks.
