"I don't feel that.it properly represents what's going on in the world".

And he said he plans to invite Russia, Australia, South Korea and India as he again advocated for the group's expansion. After proposing to delay the meeting, Trump said the G7 summit could be held around the time of the UN General Assembly in NY, which is set to kick off on September 15, or after the USA presidential election in November.

Mr Trump wants to invite Australia to the G7 summit - made up of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the US.

"At recent G7s, the host country has invited countries from outside the group". Russian Federation was added to the group in the mid 1990s and was a member of the so called G8 till 2014 when it was ejected for the annexation of Crimea.

White House spokeswoman Alyssa Farah added that the meeting will bring together traditional USA allies to talk about how to deal with the future of China, the pool report said.

Just short of calling it Cold War, the USA in its report titled, "United States Strategic Approach to the People's Republic of China", released by the White House, declared that it is "responding to the CCP's direct challenge by acknowledging that the two major powers are in a "strategic competition and protecting" their "interests appropriately".

Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron would also be reluctant to provide Trump with a prestigious platform to set out his China strategy weeks before the United States presidential election. South Korea, Australia and India are among USA allies in the Asia-Pacific region that Washington has tried to get onboard its Indo-Pacific Strategy, a Trump administration initiative seen as trying to contain Beijing's influence in the region. Secondly Russia is seen as an ally of China and has been critical of the USA in recent times. Instead, he would bring in Australia, which has joined the United States in criticising China over the spread of the coronavirus and has faced economic reprisals as a result. Following the G7 meet, Modi also went on a bilateral trip to Pairs, further strengthening the two countries' strategic partnership. "So it might be a G-10, G-11, and it could be after the election is over", Trump said.

The White House would not confirm Merkel's decision to decline, which was first reported by Politico.

The 65-year-old chancellor is the oldest G7 leader after Mr Trump, who is 73.

The U.S. president has been accused by German political leaders of trying to buy exclusive U.S.

It is not clear when the rescheduled summit will take place although Trump suggested that it could be held around the UN General Assembly in September or even after the US Presidential elections in November this year.

"I think what the President is thinking is that this is a time when the entire world is trying to come out of Covid", national security adviser Robert O'Brien told reporters at the White House on Sunday morning. Mr Trump had cancelled an in-person G-7 meeting scheduled for March.

A spokesman for the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he would veto any proposal to allow Russian Federation to rejoin the group.

Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman, Steffen Seibert, said Friday that the motto - launched along with a Möbius strip logo and website - aims to illustrate the German presidency will have to "find compromises and solutions to tackle the challenges posed by the corona pandemic" across Europe.

The G-7 holds annual meetings to discuss global economic coordination.

The work of the G7 is now more important than ever as countries struggle to fix coronavirus-inflicted damage.
