Apparently, the project is "a wholly original story with new characters under the Pirates moniker", and is not being developed as a spinoff of the block-busting franchise featuring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. She would follow it up with Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), the Robbie-led Suicide Squad spinoff that hit theaters earlier this year which, though receiving generally positive reviews from critics and audiences, did fall short of its break-even point at the box office, and is now attached as the writer for DCEU's The Flash and Batgirl. The concept of the film was presented to the franchise's insider and story writer, Ted Elliott in the month of October a year ago.

Longtime Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer is attached to produce both this and the Elliot/Mazin project. With this newly announced project, Disney at least has someone who is equally charismatic in Robbie, who has showcased a remarkable repertoire for drama, hilarious comedy and bone-breaking action in her short career.

And this act of disobedience did not go down well with Merseyside Police , the City Council and Mayor Joe Anderson. Our city remains in the grip of a major public health crisis and this behaviour is wholly unacceptable.

Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson has been roped in to pen the script for a new, female-fronted movie for Disney. Along with the aforementioned Bumblebee, the Transformers spinoff/prequel, she also wrote Birds of Prey, and continues to be busy in the DCEU with Batgirl and The Flash.

Rumours of a new Pirates film had surfaced earlier in May, with rumours of Guardians of the Galaxy's Karen Gillan being eyed for the lead role. If it's the latter, I'd imagine the Robbie/Hodson movie has the better odds since it has an actress signed on, but it's way too soon to tell.
