Virus death toll drops to 5 in NY, once the United States epicenter

In Dallas County, Jenkins said it had a record 570 positive case of the virus over Saturday and one death, lifting its totals to 20,165 infections and 352 fatalities.

Cuomo's order on paid sick leave lasts through at least July 26 but only applies to nonessential travel to states in the same categories outlined by the previous order, not to work-required travel.

Cuomo in mid-March announced guaranteed job protection and extended paid-sick leave benefits for all employed New Yorkers who were forced to stay home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Cuomo says that NY now assesses more people than any other state in the country and more people, per capita, than any other country in the world. Along with the Mohawk Valley and North Country, Central New York, the Southern Tier, and the Finger Lakes all entered Phase Four as well. In mid-March, President Trump signed a measure into law providing temporary paid sick leave to government employees and workers at companies with fewer than 500 employees.

This came hours after the lower chamber passed the bill, which would establish a commission to create a new design for the flag. For quite a while, I saw the flag as a symbol of Southern pride, associating it more with Lynyrd Skynyrd than with slavery.

"New Yorkers have controlled the spread of this unprecedented virus by being smart and disciplined, and our progress to date is illustrated by the current low numbers of new cases and hospitalizations", Governor Cuomo said.

The order comes after Cuomo, along with the governors of New Jersey and CT, announced last week they're requiring travelers from states with "significant community spread" of the virus to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in one of their three states.

"The most strident Trump supporters, the most strident ideologues - Texas, Florida - are doing a pirouette and there is nothing amusing about the pirouette", Cuomo said of his fellow governors. On Saturday, less than 1% of tests administered came back positive.

Cuomo isn't alone in reconsidering the reopenings of bars and restaurants. There are more than 2.5 million confirmed cases in the U.S.

Confirmed daily infections in the US hit an all-time high of 40,000 on Friday, prompting officials in Texas and Florida to reverse course and close down bars in their states again.
