Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 4100 claims more rapidly Don OS smartwatches

Qualcomm hasn't announced a new Snapdragon Wear platform for smartwatches in two years. Even so, it might be too late to rescue Google's wavering Wear OS platform from smartwatch obscurity. Snapdragon Wear 4100+ is created to deliver more than 85% faster performance, compared to Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform, and enhances the overall user experience with faster app launches, concurrent use cases, smoother & responsive UX, and richer photo & video experiences.

Compared to 2018's Snapdragon Wear 3100 - which itself was only a mild improvement over 2016's Wear 2100 (adding a co-processor for improved ambient capabilities), Qualcomm claims that performance has been improved by 85%, while battery longevity is now 25% greater.

For the Snapdragon 4100 Additionally, although, the QCC1110 co-processor - which handles the ambient show mode frequent to most contemporary smartwatches - is also obtaining some enhancements.

The main processor is a quad-core Cortex A53, with a clock speed of 1.7GHz. There is support for up to 16-megapixel cameras while a lower-power 4G LTE modem is also onboard.

It looks like the wait will not be as long for the 4100 chips.

While it will be interesting to see how well the Wear 4100 chip performs, its ultimate success rides more on Google being able to update the Wear OS platform and make it more attractive to consumers. Use OS is mostly dominated by trend manufacturers like Fossil, but the whole smartwatch ecosystem alone is dominated by Samsung's Equipment line and the Apple Watch.
