The thinking there is, if season openers get delayed, you can simply pick up that Utah-Washington State game and move it to October 24.

"From the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, we have been committed to prioritizing the health and safety of our student-athletes and all those connected to our athletic programs", Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said.

Games that can't be played on their scheduled date can be made up in teams' bye weeks or in Week 12 (Dec. 12).

"We've got basically two opportunities for each team to reschedule or delay the start", Scott said.

California and Arizona have been among the hardest hit by a surge in COVID-19 cases over the last month. "I think it would be foolish to think it would not happen".

The Pac-12′s schedule announcement is the third for a Power Five football conference in as many days, following the Atlantic Coast Conference and the SEC. The conference title game will be held in a home-hosted model for 2020. "We preserved the possibility of bowl games".

Australia's Victoria sees COVID-19 cases drop, still mulling curbs
Queensland's latest case of Covid-19 is a woman who may have been infectious while working at a Brisbane nursing home. Not being able to track the source of a case of COVID-19 had become a "silent enemy", Mr Andrews said.

The Pac-12 is targeting September 26 as a new start date for its revised 10-game, conference-only fall schedule, and revealed the contents of that schedule in a league press release Friday afternoon.

The schedule shift marks a drastic change from tradition.

A revised Pac-12 football schedule for the 2020 season was also included in the release. Others Pac-12 schools are not facing those hurdles.

Return-to-competition plans were determined following extensive consultation with the Pac-12 Medical Advisory Committee, the league said.

"Trying to find a way for things to be as equitable as possible, but also as understanding as possible that some places are going to be different from other places", Shaw said. Allowing specifically USC and UCLA, two Pac-12 cornerstones, to begin August 17 doesn't seem feasible at the moment. Full-blown preseason practices can open August 17 in the Pac-12. Within those 40 days, 25 can contain a practice.
