Manchester City have had a bid worth £41m accepted by Bournemouth for Ake and are expected to take the Dutchman to the Etihad Stadium.

The 25-year-old has emerged as a target for several clubs across England following his side's relegation to the English Championship last weekend.

Bournemouth were relegated from the Premier League after finishing 18th, while Manchester City finished runners-up.

Fernandinho, typically deployed as a central midfielder, has slotted into a back four on occasion but Ake now looks set to be a long-term partner for Aymeric Laporte in Manchester. City announced the signing of the player in a statement on their website on Wednesday, adding that the player signed a five-year deal but the move is subject to global clearance. The former Chelsea player was also linked to Manchester United after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was seen telling him "we need a left-footed centre-back" after United's 5-2 win over Bournemouth in early July.

Ake made 29 appearances for Eddie Howe's Bournemouth in the Premier League this season and chipped in with two goals, scoring against Southampton and Aston Villa.

It's said £40 million will be paid upfront, with a further £1 million following as part of add-ons in the deal.

City are in the market for a new winger following the departure of Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich.

"City are also reported to be involved in advanced negotiations with Valencia for the signing of 20-year-old winger Ferran Torres".
