The Category One storm is now on its way to the Bahamas with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h. In its early morning forecast discussion, the Hurricane Center said that there is a risk of surge, heavy rainfall, and strong winds in these areas through early next week, but that it was too soon to determine the magnitude of the impacts because of the uncertainty in the storm's path. Interests along the entire east coast are encouraged to monitor the progress of forecasts in the coming days, they said.

Quagliariello said the storm is expected to pass SC sometime on Monday, but added there's still uncertainty about how strong the storm will be.

Isaias knocked out power and caused flooding and small landslides across Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic on Thursday and now has strengthened into a hurricane as it begins moving into the Bahamas while heading for the U.S. East Coast.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper also declared an emergency Friday, clearing the way for the state to move trucks and supplies more easily.

Some strengthening is possible today and Isaias is expected to remain a hurricane for the next few days.

Currently, Isaias is bringing hurricane conditions for portions of the Bahamas. It is expected to hit Florida Saturday morning.

A hurricane watch was in effect from north of Deerfield Beach northward to the Volusia-Brevard County Line.

Current projections from the National Hurricane Center show the storm on course to be in the area early next week, most likely Tuesday. "This rain could result in isolated flash and urban flooding, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas, as well as isolated minor river flooding".

DeSantis said the state's department of health, based on recently issued guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, would now suggest employers focus on symptomatic people, rather than screening all workers. People who are infected with the new coronavirus and need to evacuate will be isolated in classrooms separate them from the general population, Giménez said.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Dominican Republic entire southern and northern coastlines, north coast of Haiti from Le Mole St Nicholas eastward to the northern border with the Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos Islands.

"If an individual has COVID symptoms, they will be redirected to a non-congregate sheltering option where they can more easily isolate", a statement from Cooper's office says.

Florida registered a record 253 coronavirus deaths on Thursday, setting a grim new high for the third day in a row as the state closes down some COVID-19 test centers due to a looming tropical storm. But that plan has since been changed, after Isaias' forecast track shifted farther to the east.
