Ionescu suffered the left ankle injury when she stepped on the foot of Dream guard Betnijah Laney while crossing halfcourt in the second quarter.

New York Liberty rookie Sabrina Ionescu suffered a Grade 3 left ankle sprain when she was injured during Friday's loss to the Atlanta Dream. "She will come back stronger", said Tsai on Twitter. This level of sprain causes severe pain, swelling and bruising. Sports Sabrina Ionescu needed help off the court after rolling her ankle Friday. She finished with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. She was named the conference's most outstanding player of the tournament and of the regular season.

Ionescu played in only 2 1/2 games this season and might be hard-pressed to return with the WNBA playing a truncated season with only 19 games left over the next 6 weeks. She is expected to help turn around a Liberty franchise that finished 10-24 past year and 7-27 in 2018.
