Broncos coach Curtis Modkins tests positive for COVID-19

As the coronavirus sweeps the National Football League, teams have begun to work remotely.

He had a shot to return last week but the Broncos' game versus the Patriots was postponed after New England registered multiple positive COVID-19 tests.

ESPN and the NFL Network reported Saturday that the Patriots had placed starting right guard Shaq Mason, reserve defensive end Derek Rivers and injured rusher Sony Michel on Covid-19 reserve.

However, the Patriots resumed their activities, opening their facilities Saturday for a walkthrough ahead of Sunday's game. He is in isolation and has no symptoms.

The Jaguars said they became aware Friday night of their positive test and, after it was confirmed, the player self-isolated while the team and the league conducted contact tracing. It could benefit the team that it typically separates practice squad players from guys on the 53-man roster, creating an extra level of protection to help prevent an outbreak.

Those on the list will need three negative tests to be removed. The Jaguars said they plan to play Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions in Jacksonville as scheduled. He has a $2 million roster bonus due on the fifth day after players report to training camp next summer in addition to $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses and the $4.5 million fully guaranteed base salary. The Falcons returned to their facility one day after abandoning it because of a second positive.

Newton tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a person familiar with the result, and missed an October 5 game at Kansas City. He was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday.

- The Cleveland Browns, who played the Colts on Sunday, had zero positive tests Friday morning and their building is open. Practice squad player Bill Murray also returned from the COVID-19 list Thursday.

Defensive tackle Byron Cowart was the only Patriots player now still on the list after testing positive on October 11.

The Broncos haven't played since October 1. Now, Fant will officially miss the first game of his career.

Gordon signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the Broncos this past offseason and had his first 100-yard rushing game with the team, including a 43-yard touchdown run in the closing minutes, in the October 1 win over the New York Jets.
