While the series aired for a total of eight seasons, die-hard fans felt the quality had been waning for the latter half.

And now returning showrunner Clyde Phillips is opening up about how the new season will have a far different look from what fans might be expecting. "But that's not why we're doing it".

I always knew this was going to happen someday as one of the news that came out after the Dexter finale was that Showtime was supposedly not going to let Dexter get killed, implying that there would be a return to the character one day. The network however does plan to begin shooting at the earliest and air Dexter once again in the third quarter of 2021. What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years'. James Remar, however, appeared in flashbacks through the show's entire run as Dexter's deceased father.

"We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series".

Former series showrunner Clyde Phillips is also set to return. Well, I'm happy to tell you that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found this way, and we can't wait to shoot it and show it to the world! In that episode, Dexter Morgan faked his death and started to live with a new identity. It honestly felt like season 2 when Dexter's victims were first spotted and the walls seem to be getting closer to him, more like a final season, and I've always found it weird that the series would end with the show on Dexter never was and the public deal with his crimes. We all work cohesively as a team.

"If people think the final episode stood out, it's probably because it's been sitting in my mind for so long". It's a hard question to answer'.

When asked about where the writers wanted to be situating Dexter geographically, Phillips simply revealed that Miami was off the table. It would seem the entire show wasn't a dream, per se, but a vision of Dexter's life flashing before his eyes in those, the last few seconds of his own life. The plot or storyline is being kept under wraps as well but fans may be hearing more details from Showtime soon.
