FAI investigate Stephen Kenny under investigation after showing 'anti-English' video to Ireland team before defeat to England

They report that the video contained "overtly political content" and it left some members of the FAI staff "upset" and "stunned" The video was shown in the team's hotel on the afternoon of the match, which England won 3-0. The video has been described as "anti-English" by the British newspaper.

Whilst the rivalry has been used in the past by managers to help motivate players, as similar relations are no doubt used when Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland come up against the Three Lions, the video was said to be "close to the line".

It's believed that the final clip showed a mock-up of "1916" on the scoreboard at Wembley Stadium. The video, shown to the players in the Wembley dressing room, was followed by a speech by Kenny.

In a statement made yesterday evening, the FAI conformed it will be investigating the incident.

The former Dundalk boss is still searching for the first win since taking over from Mick McCarthy, with his team managing to score only once in 2020 during a 1-1 draw with Bulgaria in September.

Kenny, appointed as senior manager in April, has endured a hard spell as coach of the senior side.
