Manchester United also said that the club's IT defence system brought the issue under control later on.

One of the world's biggest football clubs, Manchester United, has confirmed it was the victim of a "cyber attack" on its IT system - although it was at pains to add that customer and fan information was safe, as the club was "not now aware of any breach of personal data".

"He's an extremely proud of the players, how they've gone about their business and how they've handled the camp, to show the resilience and win the group".

Brown has suggested James would arrive at Goodison Park as an impact player, rather than a regular starter, and that he needs to work on becoming a more consistent performer.
