Expedition 64, which launched today, however, docked with the station just around three hours after leaving Earth from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Cassidy is said to hand command of the whole International Space Station over to Ryzhikov during a small ceremony with all of the crew members that is scheduled to happen 4:15PM on Tuesday Oct 20 and is said to be aired live on the NASA Television or even through the agency's website. The Russian cosmonauts Serguei Rizhikov and Sergei Kud-Sdedchikov, as well as the NASA US astronaut Kathleen Rubins make up the first space crew after the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, for which hygiene measures were tightened.

The Crew-1 is now scheduled to launch some time in November according to NASA's blog.

"This two-orbit rendezvous has been modeled for quite awhile now".

Ahead of the launch, the NASA astronaut had expressed her excitement to Space.com. Before May 30, when U.S. astronauts Robert Behnken and Doug Hurley showed up at the ISS graciousness of vehicles to rockets investor Elon Musk, Russia and Baikonur had delighted in a worthwhile restraining infrastructure on crewed missions to the ISS.

However, their Dragon Endeavor craft just docked effectively with the ISS around nineteen hours subsequent to arriving at circle.

Normally, it would take twice as long for a crew to reach the space station orbiting 250 miles above Earth.

But the men and women that fly to the space station have played down talk of competition and focused instead on space travel's ability to bring rival nations together for a common cause.

"We don't get to choose our launch date or what occurs on station but certainly I feel incredibly lucky to be on station when...these events are happening", said the American astronaut, who was celebrating her 42nd birthday on Wednesday.

This is cosmonaut Kud-Sverchkov's first flight into space and he is Flight Engineer 1.

The ISS, which has been permanently occupied since 2000, has been a rare example of cooperation between Moscow and Washington. The proposed new station "is too US-driven" Rogozin said.
