Most in GOP Would Back Trump

Romney voted to convict Mr. Trump, while Lee voted to acquit. But there is no federal prohibition on charging a former president for acts committed while in office. Mr Trump, in a statement after the acquittal, did not admit to any wrongdoing.

My dear friend Richard Burr, who I like and have been friends to a long time, just made Lara Trump nearly the certain nominee for the Senate seat in North Carolina to replace him if she runs.

While campaigning in 2016, Donald Trump claimed he was so admired he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue in NY and he wouldn't lose any votes.

Will Trump face any further charges?

Although most Republicans voted against convicting Trump, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell nonetheless made it clear he still felt Trump was responsible, saying: "There is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day". Whatley, who served as an elector in the state Trump narrowly won, declined to link the former president's behavior to the violent actions taken by his supporters on January 6 but said "clearly some events would not have taken place" if Trump had accepted the 306-232 vote of the Electoral College in favor of President Joe Biden.

"Donald Trump needs to be held accountable for deliberately inciting and colluding with white supremacists to stage a coup, in his continuing efforts to disenfranchise African-American voters", said NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson.

"That will help unify our party", McConnell said.

Trump enjoyed more protection from prosecution while he was president because the US Justice Department has concluded it would be unconstitutional to indict a sitting president.

"I always have, and always will, be a champion for the unwavering rule of law, the heroes of law enforcement, and the right of Americans to peacefully and honorably debate the issues of the day without malice and without hate".

And if he does, could he still run for president again anyway?

Trump hasn't said anything since his acquittal, but he hinted at running again in 2024 a number of times following his defeat in the 2020 election.

In all likelihood, it's far too early to know the answer to this. Thom Tillis, who declared Trump not guilty of the incitement of insurrection charge.

His office pointed to a Congressional Budget Office analysis published Monday that said just $6.4 billion of the $128 billion the Biden administration is asking for could be spent by K-12 schools in 2021, with the bulk of the money to be spent in future years.

President Joe Biden has largely distanced himself from passing judgement on the trial or the verdict.

The in-house Republican of ABC's "The View" told her colleagues that there is a double-standard of "broad-stroke platitudes" that allows all Republicans to be painted as QAnon supporters, while Democrats avoid similar labeling from the right.

"This sad chapter in our history has reminded us that democracy is fragile".

Biden has mostly stayed close to the White House since taking office almost a month ago, leaving the D.C. area only for weekend trips to his DE home and the Camp David presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountains in Maryland.
