Athletes in some countries have already been vaccinated, while other NOCs have said they will wait for other priority groups before seeking vaccines for their competitors. Last week, Dodger Stadium was forced to shut down due to a shortage of vaccine supply, and some city sites, including Hansem Dam, still remain closed.

Suga has said that vaccine deployment will be critical to holding a successful Olympics, delayed from previous year and due to start in late July. But Japan fell behind because it asked Pfizer to hold clinical trials with Japanese people before opening vaccinations to all. Japanese officials said this was necessary to address worries in a country with low vaccine confidence.

"Tennessee has administered more than one million doses of COVID-19 vaccine so far, and we've made substantial progress in protecting our senior citizens who are over age 70 through vaccination", said Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey, MD, MBA, FAAP.

This, he said, is to ensure that individuals who are not suited to receive the vaccine will not be injected.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said the first shipment of Pfizer vaccines, to be transported by the national flag carrier's cargo arm, MASkargo, will bring 312,390 doses of the vaccine to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) before it can be sorted and sent to various vaccine storage sites around the country. Today much of that effort is focused on letting community members know, that COVID-19 vaccines are becoming available and they are safe.

As of Tuesday, North Macedonia had recorded 97,456 coronavirus cases and more than 3,000 deaths since the beginning of the epidemic year ago in this country of just over 2 million people. People with underlying health issues, as well as caregivers at nursing homes and other facilities, will be next, before the general population receives its turn. Japan is now under a partial state of emergency in part because Suga's virus measures were too lax and slow. There's worry hospitals will have no additional capacity to cope with the large number of overseas visitors the Olympics would involve.

The PM said those receiving the Covid-19 vaccine will be screened first to determine their suitability - including the checks on their medical history and allergies before receiving the jab.

Japan is planning to initially vaccinate 40,000 healthcare workers before it begins wider distribution.
