In response to the MHRA's data, Prof Adam Finn, a member of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), insisted taking the vaccine was "by far the safest choice" to minimise the risk of serious illness or death from Covid-19.

In a statement it said: "ATAGI considers the benefits of vaccination in protecting people in Australia from Covid-19 outweigh the rare potential risk of these rare blood clotting events, and supports the continued rollout of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Australia".

Australian regulator the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has said previously the AstraZeneca vaccine was not tied to an increase in overall risk of blood clots, however.

Earlier this month, the European Medicines Agency, which authorized the AstraZeneca vaccine in January, said the vaccine's benefits outweigh any risks.

Meanwhile, side effects monitoring group Lareb said on Friday that one Dutch woman has died after being given the AstraZeneca vaccine, although no link has yet been shown between her symptoms and the vaccine.

The Dutch decision comes three days after authorities in Germany also stopped using the AstraZeneca's vaccine in the under-60s, also citing fresh concerns over unusual blood clots reported in a tiny number of those who received the shots.

All of the pharmacies will be administering the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Egypt may seek US$1 billion in compensation for Suez canal crisis
As for the investigation, I leave this question to the administration of the canal and the relevant authorities. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi visited the canal on Tuesday, a spokesman said in a Facebook post .

"The number and nature of suspected adverse reactions reported so far are not unusual in comparison to other types of routinely used vaccines", the MHRA online statement said.

An AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is prepared at the local vaccination centre as the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continues in Hagen, Germany, on March 19, 2021. The agency issued the guidance after some European countries, including Germany and France, suspended its use over blood clot fears.

More people in Ontario will soon be able to book a shot to get a COVID-19 vaccine at a pharmacy.

People who have tested positive for coronavirus within the past six months will only have to have one dose of vaccine, public health institute RIVM said on Friday.

He said people should be particularly alert to severe and persistent headaches that occu between four and 20 days after the vaccination, which "are different to your usual pattern of headaches" and do not settle with paracetomol or other over-the-counter painkillers.

AstraZeneca's vaccine, developed with the University of Oxford, is under mounting scrutiny and has faced dwindling support in Europe. Canada recently received a shipment of 1.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the United States as part of a "vaccine loan" agreement.
