She says there has also been an outbreak of five cases - one linked to the Brazilian variant - at a separate Calgary zone workplace.
"The outbreak started with a traveller returning to Alberta from out of province".
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney is reinstituting some public-health restrictions, saying that variant cases of COVID-19 continue to soar and are on track to swamp the health system by mid-May. "To date, the spread has been confined to three work sites in Central and North Zone, where employees travelled between sites".
"It's natural to be frustrated and to be sick and exhausted of this pandemic", Hinshaw said. "Anyone at risk is being directly contacted and supported".
PTW Energy Services later confirmed three positive cases of the P.1 variant in its offices in Edson and two other western Alberta communities: Hinton and Drayton Valley.
On Tuesday, the province recorded 931 new cases of COVID-19, 676 of which are variants of concern.
