A former aide for Rep. Matt Gaetz said the sex trafficking allegations against him were "baseless". An aggressive and high-profile ally of Donald Trump, Gaetz has so far received nearly no public support from his congressional Republican colleagues and none from the former president.
A federal sex trafficking probe involving Gaetz and a then-17-year-old girl was reported by the New York Times last week. McGee and his law firm Beggs & Lane issued a statement last week denying Gaetz's allegations. First, I have never, ever paid for sex.
The DOJ is investigating whether Gaetz had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl in 2019.
Engaged since New Year's Eve, he wrote, "My lifestyle of yesteryear may be different from how I live now, but it was not and is not illegal". Rep. Barbara Comstock, R-Va., pushed for Gaetz's removal from Congress after the Justice Department'sinvestigation became public knowledge.
He also predicted, "I'm sure some partisan crooks in Merrick Garland's Justice Department want to pervert the truth and the law to go after me". Instead, the outspoken and increasingly politically outcast Florida Republican repeats the suggestion that he is the target of a political persecution that was initiated by the Biden administration.

The decision to suspend use of the vaccine is a further blow to the Dutch vaccination campaign which is running behind schedule .

"Air Force veteran and "research consultant" Bob Kent verified to Sirius Radio personality Michael Smerconish that he had approached Gaetz's deep-pocketed father, former Florida Senate President Don Gaetz, last month seeking a $25 million loan", reported William Bredderman.
Nelson, who said he remains "loosely affiliated" with Gaetz's office as an unpaid adviser, stated that he notified Gaetz's office that he had spoken to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, but that he has not spoken to the congressman personally in months.
"I'm here this morning to state that nothing could be further from the truth", Nelson said.
Nelson told reporters during a Monday news conference that when agents went to his house to question him, they made it seem that they believed Nelson resigned because he was aware of Gaetz's involvement in illegal activity.
No news media outlets have reported that Nelson left his position with Gaetz over the investigation, but FBI agents asking him about it was enough for Nelson to declare all of the news reports on the investigation into Gaetz as baseless, he said.
