US commander warns against attacks on troops in Afghanistan as deadline passes

Future aid for Kabul will be linked to democratic standards, Germany says 'It's Time to Bring Those Troops Home': Biden Tells Congress He's 'Ending the Forever War in Afghanistan'

Earlier in the week Mujahid told Reuters conversations were continuing, saying: "Discussions between the U.S. and Taliban and ... within the Taliban's leadership are under way whether to extend that or not".

There have been about 2,500 United States troops in Afghanistan that are openly acknowledged, plus several hundred additional special operations forces.

His name and his terrorist network, al Qaeda, came to define an era of USA reaction and retribution dwarfing any previous counter-terrorism policy, reports CNN.

USA and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation troops entered Afghanistan in October 2001 to root out Al-Qaeda perpetrators following the 9/11 attacks on the U.S.

Today, the terror group that once roared to world attention is reduced to a whimper, but it is far from dead.

"While these actions will initially result in increased forces levels, we remain committed to having all USA military personnel out of Afghanistan by September 11, 2021", she added, clarifying that the Biden administration wants a "safe and responsible" exit from the country. But President Biden announced last month after reviewing the situation that forces would stay in the country for months beyond May, withdrawing by September 11.

Biden is set to loosen guidelines for wearing masks outside, report says
Masks should be worn by everyone in camp facilities, except when taking part in activities like eating, drinking or swimming. According to the CDC, adults/camp employees are to remain 6 feet from each other and children.

The spokesperson has also hinted that the deal between the Taliban and America might be based on a sham as, al Qaeda claims, the Taliban is not being completely honest with the Biden administration.

An estimated 3,000 USA service members will be called home, though not before the May 1 deadline President Donald Trump's administration negotiated with the Taliban.

"American leadership means ending the forever war in Afghanistan", Biden declared in his first such speech as president. The U.S. military then responded to the rocket attack with an airstrike on a Taliban position, CNN reports.

But he added that fighters were waiting on the decision of Taliban leadership. "We delivered justice to Osama Bin Laden and we degraded the terrorist threat of al Qaeda in Afghanistan", he said. But make no mistake - the terrorist threat has evolved beyond Afghanistan since 2001, and we will remain vigilant against threats to the United States, wherever they come from.

Bergen pointed to another part of al Qaeda's response highlighting continuing ties with the Taliban, in which it said: "At the same time TTP [Pakistani Taliban] and AQ have relations of Islamic brotherhood which was and still intact and same is the case with the Afghan Taliban". However, as Cruickshank points out, "a statement of intent from an anonymous operative is hardly binding on the group".
