A man shot dead his 38-year-old girlfriend and a 15-year-old boy before killing himself Monday at a Florida apartment complex in an incident that left three other children injured.

The shooting happened at around 2 a.m.in a strip mall hookah lounge restaurant following a graduation party in Kendall, Miami-Dade Police director Freddy Ramirez said at a news conference.

Authorities are searching for a dark-colored Chevrolet Malibu and a white Toyota Camry that witness say they say speeding away from the scene.

Taylor had worked at Dade Correctional Institution since January 2020.

One of the victims who was shot and died in hospital was a female corrections officer.

The auto had bullet holes in it and police have not yet determined if those who died were shot or killed in the crash, Rodriguez said. "Our prayers are with her family as they navigate this unimaginable loss".

Two of the deaths occurred when a vehicle crashed into a wall at nearby Miami Dade College's Kendall campus According to NBC Miami.

The suspected shooter was also found dead after they committed suicide inside the complex, according to police. He said the party at a strip mall lounge was ending when one or more vehicles "pulled up and began to fire into the crowd". Authorities found at least one gun in the vehicle, but its exact connection to the shooting was unclear.

An 11-year-old girl, 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old boy were all rushed to hospital after being shot.

"It just goes to show you the magnitude of this gun violence issue", Ramirez said.

The shooting came a week after a mass shooting outside a banquet hall in Hialeah, Miami-Dade County, left three people dead and 20 wounded. "We have to band together", Ramirez said.

"This violence has to stop".

He added: "And this is extremely frustrating".

"Every weekend, it's the same thing".

He said: "Protecting the safety and wellbeing of all Miami-Dade families and swiftly bringing those responsible to justice is our most urgent priority". "We will not allow a small group of violent actors to terrorize our community, and violent offenders will face the full weight of the law".

The surge in gun violence in the area spurred Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava on Friday to order stepped-up enforcement and protection across the county, specifically in commercial areas with a history of criminal activity and where businesses operating illegally have been shut down.
