COVID-19: United Kingdom reports another 9,284 coronavirus cases and six deaths

The new cases include 50 in Winnipeg, 15 in the Southern Health Region, and three cases each in the Interlake-Eastern Health Region, Northern Health Region and Prairie Mountain Health Region.

The province is aiming to have most people get their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine eight weeks after their first.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in B.C. now stands at 1,204.

There were 106 new variant of concern cases announced on Saturday, down significantly from Friday's count and bringing the total to 14,500.

Total UK deaths since the start of the pandemic - within 28 days of a positive test - stand at 127,976.

The provincial death toll from the disease is 1,743, out of 147,131 confirmed cases to date.

None of the weekend deaths were on Vancouver Island, where 41 people have died since the pandemic began.

There have been 231,132 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alberta over the course of the pandemic, with 226,513 now recovered. Alberta health officials are reporting 127 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, as well as 116 new variant cases.

Another 90 people are in hospital but no longer infectious, but still require care, including 21 people in ICU. Nearly 90 percent of the districts in the country have been witnessing a sharp fall in the number of active cases. As of Monday, 77.3 per cent of B.C. adults and 75.8 per cent of those over the age of 12 had received a shot.

Health officials continue to encourage all British Columbians to get vaccinated against the coronavirus as soon as possible. "This will allow you and your family to enjoy your summer even more, knowing you have protection from COVID-19", she added.

"While we are progressing through BC's Restart plan, let's remember that the virus is still circulating in communities, here in B.C. and in neighbouring provinces and territories", Henry and Dix said.

India reported 53,256 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in 88 days, in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 2,99,35,221, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Monday.

"If you are planning a trip, ensure you are vaccinated before you go".

Canada is likely to hit major vaccine milestones in the next month with as much as 80 per cent of the country fully covered, but the country will still have to be ready for flare-ups and outbreaks, according to Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada's chief public health officer.
