A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the areas east of Morgan City to the Okaloosa/Walton County line, including Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, and Metropolitan New Orleans.

Last month, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) revealed that its Climate Prediction Center was forecasting another above normal Atlantic hurricane season.

For now, it's official called "Potential Tropical Cyclone Three", located as of 4 p.m. Thursday 475 south of Morgan City, Louisiana and moving north at nine miles per hour.

Tropical Storm Claudette has formed and is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and an isolated tornado threat across the Deep South today.

On the forecast track, the system will make landfall along the north-central Gulf Coast tonight or early Saturday. Maximum sustained winds were at 30 miles per hour.

Rivals acknowledge Iran election victor
As night fell Friday, turnout appeared far lower than in Iran's last presidential election in 2017. Poll workers wore gloves and masks, and some wiped down ballot boxes with disinfectants.

This system is set to bring high rain and flooding to northern Gulf coast states with some areas that could see 6-10 inches of rainfall.

If PTC#3 gets a more defined and focused center of circulation prior to landfall it will become a tropical storm, if so its name will be "Claudette".

The hurricane center warned of flash, urban and small-stream flooding as a result of the heavy rainfall and said river flooding could occur as the storm hits areas with elevated rivers. A tornado watch is in effect for southern MS, southern Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle.

Almost 6 million people are under a tropical storm warning from Intracoastal City, Louisiana, to the Alabama-Florida border, including Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas and New Orleans.
