Local dancers share thoughts on performing in “The Nutcracker”

Before moving here last year, VanDagna danced under the direction of Gretchen Patchell, a former NYC Ballet Principal Dancer, at York Ballet.

“I am excited to be part of ‘The Nutcracker’ this year because I get to dance in the party scene,” VanDagna said. “And I get to dance in Flowers with the older girls.”

Greatwood dancer Morgan Hildum, who has the same roles as Waldorf and Thaxton, is in her tenth year of dancing and her sixth year in “The Nutcracker.”

Still, Hildum, who has danced as an angel, lamb, mouse and polichinelle in the past, said she is psyched to dance in the production again, for the simplest of reasons: “It’s so fun and magical.”

BalletForte Company members audition for and are accepted to attend summer programs offered by professional ballet companies nationwide.
